Today isn't the best day. There are about 30 things I'd like to do, and a nice handful of people whose faces I'd love to see right now...and I feel like total and complete mierda. And it's really disappointing because the day started with me being led out of bed by the smell of blueberry pancakes cooking in my kitchen-- come on, what is better than that?! The sun is actually shining, the snow is on a hasty retreat, and I'm one day closer to whatever solution is waiting for me...and my best friend made blueberry pancakes! WTF?!
Now, that said, I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on something. So, it's been, what?, a little less than a week since this whole mess really ramped up-- and like I've said, there's been this incredible deluge of support and love from family and friends. (Again, I couldn't be more grateful. I feel ridiculous and completely undeserving, and it seems like every hour brings another opportunity to be flummoxed by kindness. Let there be no mistake.) But, there's a hilarious pattern developing among the different gestures. Apparently, there are two main ideologies in the get-well-soon discipline. There's the classic approach-- "we're praying for you", "I love you", "you're in our thoughts"-- the Casablanca of get-well-soon sentiments. And then there's the alternative approach-- "Dana, what the F**K?!?" "Your spine tumor is BULLS**T!" "F**K, Dana! Your surgeons should get their heads out of their asses!"-- the Godfather of get-well-soon sentiments. I'm pleased to say that both approaches bring lightness and brightness, and I'm pleased that I've somehow amassed a circle of friends and family that straddles these two ideologies. I feel particularly special because yesterday I received a gift from my brother and sister-in-law-to-be, and the note attached had a direct reference to Tupac Shakur...and this was a few hours before another family member mentioned praying a rosary on my behalf.
Catholicism and West Coast rap! I am covered. Historically, rebellion against either one has been very ill-advised. I am bathed in confidence.
From my own extensive and exhaustive research on this rather pertinent subject, I must conclude that there have been no miracles attributed to the shrine of Tupac or any other rap worship. On the other hand, Catholicism or Christianity in general is peppered with numerous miracles, and not just in ancient times. I'd be happy to discuss this subject in depth upon request and have a truly inspiring biography on a modern day saint I'd be more than happy to loan out. Amazing reading, actually.
ReplyDeleteFaith and prayer are truly more than just words...
If had to take my pick between the big JC and Tupac, I am hands down, 100% going with Tupac.

ReplyDeleteDana, I'm so glad you had some real R&R today. And thank you Katie for being a wonderful facilitator. If you want some good sushi without bailing out the pocketbook, hit Tai Nam Tip or Kobuto. At least your pocketbook won't cut and run screaming.
