the Sabbath day

Yeah, I've kept it holy. I have been in my PJs all day, I slept late, caught myself up on the last 5 episodes of 30 Rock, and made a kick-ass casserole. (...from which I am now sore...lifting a large stockpot full of water and cooked noodles to pour the contents into a colander was maybe not the wisest thing to do...oh, those angry trapezius muscles...sorry, buddies, I'll get some hot compresses on you in no time...and the casserole was worth it!) I think I may take a slow walk around the neighborhood later, but other than that, I've really enjoyed today's relative inactivity.

I should state for the record that today's relaxation is in the service of a larger goal: not taking any Valium. I've identified Valium as the most tempting of the palliative options I have at my immediate disposal...it works fast and it works well, and I can really see how people get hooked on it. So, I woke up today with only that goal in mind: no Valium. (If you want to read more into it, feel free to draw a connection between my goal for today and our President's recent meeting with Admiral Michael Mullen about the ridiculous shit that has been going on in Mexico, and the role prescription drugs play in what is really an incredible shitstorm. I mean, seriously...beheadings? Really? It's come to that? You know you have a problem when someone's death isn't enough; when his execution is preferred instead.)

Well, it's nearly 10:30, and good old Aunt Val is still sitting pretty in her orange bottle, and I'm fine. Little victory for me, little "fuck-you" to druglords. (Ok, ok, I know...I'm hardly fighting the war on drugs, I get it, my actions aren't even a drop in the bucket...but they deserve every "fuck-you" they get. Any of my friends who have had to deal with a loved one in rehab, any major talent that we've lost from film, literature, music, art from an overdose, any innocent people caught in the crossfire of drug trafficking...honestly, the people that benefit from all of that shit deserve every single "fuck-you" than anyone can muster. And off I step from my soapbox...back to more TV-watching and bra-less-ness...)
