Reconnection

A few years ago, I was living in Chicago, when I had an inexplicable urge to reconnect with a friend of mine who I hadn;t seen in a while. I got her number from a common friend, and gave her a call. There was no answer, and I left a message. The next night, she called me back, and it was hilarious. She asked if there was a particular reason why I'd called her-- had I heard something about her? I hadn't, and asked why. She said that she's gotten engaged the night before and hadn't told much of anybody. (Her engagement story is wonderful.)

Cut to yesterday. There's this new feature on Facebook, where users are urged to reconnect with their Facebook friends with whom they haven't exchanged messages or posts. Being a sucker for all things Facebook, I took the advice and wrote a quick how's-it-going? to that same friend. She replied today that she was five months pregnant, and had just found out that she is having a son!

There is something to be said about keep things lo-fi, and staying off the grid. Sure. But, there's also something to be said about keeping a wire open with a friend. I am so happy for her-- and I'm very happy for the almost-son she has. He has no idea that he's hit the parental jackpot.

  1. I love this. I'm all about the catch ups with those you may have lost touch with.
If you were friends once before, it's likely you probably still have something in common.
And such nice news from your friend !
