I am leading a pretty small life right now. I spend a lot of time reading, researching, and filling out job applications. I am not taking classes, or attending meetings, or living in an urban setting-- I don't have too much opportunity for general DKM hijinks. But, today I had a CLASSIC one.
I had applied at a local retailer, and hadn't heard anything despite my killer resume, generous retail experience, and totally open availability. So, I stopped by the store today to speak to a manager directly, and hand him a hard copy of my resume, and shake his hand, and show him my signature The Customer Comes First smile. It was a very positive interaction because he scheduled an interview with me for tomorrow. As I was leaving, the wind was blowing, and my hair flew in my face-- and discovered a large chunk of my breakfast oatmeal hanging out in my hair. It's a bold look, and I don't really recommend it as an option for meetings with potential bosses, even if the meeting is informal.
In other news, my friend Laura (co-chair of the Southern delegation of Team Dana) is in Chicago for an academic conference, and she sent me a photo of the facade of my favorite bar there. I am bathed in envy. Even though my time in Chicago was relatively short, and wholly negative, I have some great memories of having quiet meals by myself at The Pasta Bowl, and then going next door to The Other Side for drinks. I met some really fun people and for just a few hours each week, I had a spot in the city where I could feel like myself and share some laughs. I am SO glad that Laura gets to have a taste of that!
dude, that's pretty funny. obviously your potential employer wasn't thrown off by this and maybe thought you were saving that hunk of oatmeal for a snack! eeeeew. good luck. btw, this is kristin too lazy to log in...
