Another long week of holiday insanity begins in just a few short hours. A nice reprieve from it will be dinner Monday night with Ms. Molly. It's disappointing that one of my bestest friends has been in town for just shy of a week, and I've spent maybe 4 hours with her. That will be remedied. And I'll be catering the event.
I watched another Christmas movie earlier tonight, Home for Christmas. I think that was the title. It was awful enough for me to not want to explore the interwebs for any confirming details. Linda Hamilton did a decent job of not vomiting on herself on screen. And that's about the best thing about the whole film. Lifetime or Hallmark or who-the-f'-ever is responsible for the movie getting made had a nice idea-- produce a film about a regular lady dealing with a fairly common and relevant issue: homelessness. But the way in which it was presented was absolutely offensive. OFFENSIVE. And, thanks, but the circumstances that would lead a woman to sleep in her car probably preclude her from having an immaculate complexion and perfectly tousled hair. Also, Linda Hamilton apparently has lost her ability to speak clearly. Either that, or she suddenly decided that speaking like a total nutjob is more appropriate when working with comedic material. Oy.
In brighter Christmas movie news, Noel was on earlier. That is a decent holiday film. I have no idea how that cast was brought together, but praise-be-to-peppermint-sticks, it is a great group. Susan Sarandon brings the awesome, and Paul Walker brings the hot. And I saw an ad for the Muppet Christmas movie that came out last year-- A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa-- I may or may not have to go buy the DVD. It was a good one. Jesse L. Martin (of Rent's original Broadway cast, and of Law and Order) is fantastic in it, and there's a hilarious part where Beaker gets a ladyfriend. "Meep-meep", indeed! Admittedly, I'm a sucker for all things Muppet. I know The Muppets Take Manhattan better than I rightfully should. I watched it again today (yes, today was rife with sitting and staring at the television), and after seeing it a zillion times, it still holds up. Joan Rivers' cameo is hilarious. And it never ceases to amaze me how the littlest or subtlest movements in the hands of the puppeteers adds so much to each Muppet-- the little shrugs or head-tilts are fantastic! I so wish that Jim Henson was still with us. What an incredible artist!
Anyway-- off to bed. Who knows what this week will bring?
