I follow politics with some regularity and some fervor, and it can get very frustrating, disappointing, and discouraging. However, there are moments in politics when all of the bullshit becomes SO WORTH IT.

Diane Savino is a NY State Senator (D-Staten Island), and without planning, she has become a new voice for gay marriage. She makes several really good points, she speaks with utmost eloquence, and she used humor and candor (and pop culture references!) to strengthen her remarks. I could not be a bigger fan of this woman. And yes, I already wrote her an e-mail to thank and congratulate her, and to tell her that I'd love to volunteer on her next campaign.
In other news, after my entry last night, I took a hard look at a few things. As I said, I no longer speak to my former roommate, a girl with whom I shared a great friendship for a year or so. I lied when I said that I hold no ill will towards her. I really do. I really resent her for wasting my time and energy. Also, I resent her for single-handedly destroying a close friendship I had with someone else, a guy named Chris. I love the quote that reminds us that our happiness is our own responsibility-- well, I made a decision. I won't ever be friends with my old roommate. It won't happen. But, I swallowed my pride and got back in touch with Chris, and with a little effort, I'm hoping he and I can be buddies again. For what it's worth, it's one thing that I can do in service of my own happiness.
I vote 'aye'!
