Another long day.
A client came in today with 2 bottles of wine to be wrapped for a hostess gift-- they were each hand-labeled and from a very small bottling from a vineyard near Patagonia. (No, not like the Patagonia store, but PATAGONIA, South America.) He had taken an adventure vacation there a few years ago, stumbled upon a vineyard, and flew 100 or 200 bottles of their merlot back to his home outside of Detroit. I love that wine can tell a story-- and what a great gift to give! A few years ago, BFF Thea had been living in France, and brought back bottles of rose wine for several of her friends. I don't know much about wine, and I knew even less then-- but I do know that the rose was delicious and that it was germaine to Thea's experience in France, so drinking it had more significance. It was as though she said, "Here is what my life in France tasted like. Try it, and let me share my experience with you." It was cool. (My brother eats a TON of seafood living in the Bay Area. When he comes home to Detroit, he'll make meals with scallops, mussels, etc., and it has a similar effect to Thea's rose.)
