Paging Mr. F. Snowman....Mr. F. Snowman, please report to Detroit

We are in the midst of a very low-caliber snowstorm. This is barely adequate. I remember snow- and/or ice-storms from my littleness that were just spectacular-- the tree branches would be coated with a thick sheath of ice, so it looked looked like everything was under glass. Massive snowdrifts would form over the water retention ditch in our front yard that were so thick, that I could step into one, sit down crosslegged, and completely disappear beneath the surface of the snow. We had one storm that started out as snow and then turned into ice-- so there was a layer of ice on top of the thick blanket of snow. This was totally bad-ass because we could gather some forward momentum to slide across the ice and then upon slowing, the ice would give, creating this satisfying drop into the snow. But, APPARENTLY, Michigan has gotten too good for the messy and dramatic storms of the past-- because now we're stuck with this 5-8" bullshit.

I'm sure that people in DC might be a little overwhelmed with over 4 feet of snow-- that's insane. On the other hand, IT IS TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME!! I am so jealous of the kids there-- there must be some epic snow forts under construction. My friend Jason (who is my age) built a fort, complete with a spy window through which he shoots Nerf darts. It might be the best thing Jason will ever do, including his current internship at the f-ing WHITE HOUSE. (I have a few ideas for interesting architectural ideas for snow forts, but I have a devastating lack of building material. Winter wonderland, my ass.)

I've started expanding my job search into fields and cities that I'd never considered before. I know that I don't want to remain in the Midwest and I don't want to work for Quicken (or any company of its ilk). I've seen some compelling stuff, and it's making me hopeful for what will be available once I'm done with school. In the mean time, I just want to build a snow fort. Or a snow family. Or a massive backyard ice rink. Grr...I'm snowsick.
