A couple of New Year's Eves ago, I went to Boston with a bunch of people to ring it in, and to celebrate a friend's wedding the next day. BFF Katie has a ton of friends in Boston, and we started the evening at a party that one of them was throwing. Later on, a massive group of us set out to ride the T [that's the train system there, for the Boston-simple] to a bar. As we were descending the stairs into the tunnel, we could hear a train coming, so there was a mad rush to get it-- we all ran and squeezed in just as the doors were closing. One of Katie's guyfriends looked around, and said, "We did it! And we did it together" sort of in the style of an aw-shucks father figure in an 80's comedy. It was hilarious. I don't remember if everyone else found it to be funny, but I laughed my can off, and I still quote it.
Cut to a few minutes ago-- I was watching "Guiliana and Bill" (it's a guilty pleasure reality show about Giuliana Rancic, an anchor on E!, and Bill Rancic, the first winner of "The Apprentice"), and the two subjects were competing in a couples' challenge. Giuliana is afraid of heights, and Bill had to hold her hand, literally and figuratively, all the way through this ladder challenge thing. Afterwards, she was all upset that her fear of heights had been such an issue, and he goes, "Yeah, be overcame it, and we did it as a TEAM." And, for a moment, it felt like I was back on the T because it was so cheesy, overdone, and hilarious. Bill Rancic is pretty hot, and he seems to be really in love with his wife. So, I guess it was kind of cute, too.
More Olympics fever tonight-- holy shit, what a day for the US team. I'm not a huge fan of Shaun White, but DAMN. He's very good at snowboardage. It was also nice to see Lindsay Vonn kick some ass despite her injury, and her post-victory emotional breakdown was hilarious and really touching. And her husband is wicked hot.
