Wrap-up

Jan can corroborate: I was a full-on wreck during most of the Oscars ceremony. I can't comment on the acting awards because I backed out of my same-day Oscarquesting, and didn't see Precious, The Blind Side, or Crazy Heart, but you can bet your ass I'll be seeing them soon. Aside from those, I am thrilled with the outcome of the other awards. I'm glad that Avatar won the awards that it did-- it should not be ignored as the game-changer that it is, and the technicians who created it made magic happen. But, more than that, I am SO SO SO happy that The Hurt Locker won what it did. The sounds, the writing, the direction (KATHRYN BIGELOW! GO ON, GIRL! DO THE DAMN THING!!)-- absolutely worthy of Oscar gold.

Other things:

For some reason, I cried at several points. The John Hughes tribute-- lost it; hearing the co-stars introduce the Best Actor/Actress nominees-- lost it; Jeff Bridges', Sandra Bullock's, Kathryn Bigelow's [first and second] acceptance remarks-- totally f-ing lost it.

I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did a nice job. It wasn't ground-breaking, but it was good.

Neil Patrick Harris' opening number was a delight. No surprise there-- NPH can do no wrong in my opinion.

[I'm watching some lame post-Oscars coverage on E! and the ersatz-pundits are referring to Sean Penn as "Sean of the Penn"-- that is very funny.]

Ok-- I've had enough. I need to turn off the TV, turn off this screen, and chill out. I might have a bit of a media-fast tomorrow. I mean, it's possible. After watching some fashion critique...and maybe some interviews with Kathryn Bigelow...

  1. Great movies this year. The thing that really stands out in my mind is that a woman directed a "war movie" so well. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride... scared one minute , relived the next...and when it was over?....Can I ride again?
