Globally

Regarding James Cameron's speech at the Globes last night for Best Picture-- yeah. Alright. For James Cameron, sure, the world must seem miraculous. He makes insane cash to do exactly what he loves, and he is lauded for it at every turn. I thought it was in pretty poor taste to make thinly veiled references to the money-making side of film when he was up against filmmakers who are making movies with a lot less big-money cushioning and therefore have less special effects to wow critics. And lastly, would it have killed him to give a mere nod to Haiti? For real, Jim. How hard would that have been? Yeah, and by the way, cut your damn hair.

Regarding RDJ's speech-- oh, holy awesome. It's nice to see that there are still some entertainers who have the real thing.

How funny was Meryl Streep's acceptance speech? It was very sweet, definitely, but I love that because she is La Streep, she has total license to do whatever the hell she wants. She can drone on and on, and it's all good. I think Modern Family said it best:

I love The Streeper. She can bring it, for sure. Just why she was seated further away from the stage than Julia MFing Roberts or Sandra Bullock [shudder with disdain], I'm sure I will never understand.

Lastly, I thought Ricky Gervais was funny. He wasn't good, per se, but he was certainly funny. He knows his place in that room and in the industry, and for that, I'm a fan.
