As one can imagine, there are things I am not allowed to do while my neck heals. I've touched upon some of these limitations, but I haven't gotten into the fun ways I've been able to navigate normal life despite them. To that end, allow me to introduce my new friend The Courtesy. The Courtesy is a steel-shafted pinching tool that allows me to pick stuff off the floor or a high shelf-- it basically does the cursory work of my hand when I can't get my hand to do the job itself.
When I was first given this tool by the lovely occupational therapist at the hospital, she referred to it as a "reacher"...translated by my incessant immaturity, that name turned into "The Reach-around". This didn't go over well with the older generation; either they didn't get it, or they refuse to find that kind of thing funny. Hence the new title.
The Courtesy and I have become fast friends, and I am open to ideas of what utility it may have once I've healed. Let me know.
