Good morning. Day 2 of convalescence has started off very well. My sisters and our surrogate sister, Adrienne, arrived last night, and I am fully amped to have them here. There's going to be all manner of supervised mischief over the next 24 hours. I successfully made coffee and a chorizo-vegetable scramble for breakfast. (Negotiating my physical limitations to extract a skillet from my grandmother's kitchen cabinet was an entirely different story. It seriously took 10 f-ing minutes. Also, I had to get my sister to crack the eggs.) I love to cook, so it felt really good to just get my hands into it. I want to record a video of my hand using a spatula because my as-yet-not-fully-functional fingers make it really funny. I have to use my left hand to unwrap my right hand from the handle, and my knife skills are just ridiculous. (Grandma also doesn't have a single decent blade. I have become a bit of a knife snob, so cooking without a nice Santoku or chef's knife is just not enjoyable. And slicing that gorgeous Palacios chorizo that Pilar sent me with a weak little steak knife...just doesn't seem fair.) I'm being careful though-- I know my lowered sensitivity and dexterity puts me at risk for cuts and burns. Anyway. Chorizo. Delicious.
So, a kind of funny story. For brushing my teeth, I have to use a little plastic tub in which to spit-- I can't bend at the neck to spit into the sink so I bring the tub up to my mouth to clear it. Well, last night I guess I either forgot or was getting cocky about being able to aim for the sink without bending, or maybe the drugs were holding on a little tighter...but I ended up with a mouthful of minty drool down the front of my shirt. Very attractive. I walked into the room I'm sharing with my mom, and she was like, "Hot look, honey." My mom has seen me in rare form in the past few days-- some not so great, but some pretty hilarious. And now that my sisters are in town, these instances are sure to become more frequent because...well, that stuff just happens when Carrie and Jennie show up.
More later...
