I have a new pet peeve, and it may be somewhat entertaining to 3rd parties. Sample conversation:
Random friend or family member: Hey, Dana! How are you feeling?
Dana: Oh, I'm hanging in there. I'm still pretty stiff and sore, but--
Random: Wait, you're STILL sore?!
Dana: [blank stare] Uh, yeah. I had surgery on my SPINAL CORD.
Random: Yeah, I know, but that was like, weeks ago.
I don't get it. How is this a surprise? WTF?
In other news, in the last 10 days, three people close to me have lost either a parent or a grandparent, and another person close to me is going through a marital shitshow. What is going on? I'm pretty sure that we could all use a little break.
To that end, I was reading a thread on an online music magazine about the most heart-breaking song ever recorded. There were a lot of different suggestions on the thread, some dead-on, some completely off-base (just because a song is slow, it doesn't mean it's heart-breaking), and I was getting sad just reading all of them. (Someone mentioned Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You"-- totally agree with that one. "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding. "Pictures of You" by The Cure.) And then someone submitted this:
"I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred makes me tear up every time. Can you imagine the inner torment of being too sexy for your shirt? How about Japan? Doing turns on the catwalk of life in front of way less sexy people...it must be hell on Earth. Great, now I'm crying again.
And I laughed my ass off...it was a good reminder that even in awful, trying times, laughter can still be close at hand. (EC, AG, JG, KD-- you're in my thoughts.)
