Peppermint tea

I had a day full of ennui today. Also, I drank a shit-ton of peppermint tea. A few weeks ago, I reviewed Home for the Holidays, and mentioned the character Aunt Gladdy, as played by Geraldine Chaplin. I feel a little bit like Aunt Gladdy today. I was pretty anti-social (I didn't go to the bridal shower-- I slept in too late, felt like crap when I woke up, and then spent the rest of the day feeling like a total shitbag for not going), I flipped through cookie recipes without actually making any cookies, and I realized that I'm 28 and living with my parents while everyone I know is out being an adult. Like with significant others, social lives, careers, etc. Psshh. Also, to top it off, while I was doing the dishes, I listened to a mix CD, and ABSOLUTELY started dancing in the kitchen, clutching my travel mug of peppermint tea as though it was my dance partner. (To be fair, the dancing started when Susan Tedeschi's cover of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" started playing-- and it's pretty much the best song I've ever heard for some slow-tempo dancing in one's kitchen. I've been solidly single my entire life, and those circumstances have offered me the chance to finely hone what I want in a partner. I've narrowed it down to 2 basic requirements: 1) he has to be helpful in finishing crossword puzzles, particularly the NY Times ones and 2) he has to enjoy dancing and not be a total dick about it. I can work with everything else, but those two things are non-negotiable.

I can't remember if I already mentioned this, but every year, in lieu of Christmas cards, my friend Emily composes a mix CD called "Femme Fatales"-- this year's volume was all covers. So, in addition to that sweet Dylan cover, there is also a cover of the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" by Angelique Kidjo and Joss Stone [check it], Eva Cassidy's cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" [check it], and Lady Aretha's f-ing AWESOME take on "Bridge Over Troubled Water" [oh, yeah]. I cannot listen to this CD enough. Emily did a great job.
