el fiebre Olympico

I just watched the original dance portion of the ice dancing competition and it's official-- for this particular event, I am firmly on Team Canada. I am not into the cowboys, faux Indian bullshit, Moldavian folk-dancing, and certainly not that aboriginal tomfoolery. The Canadian pair, Vertue and Moir, were elegant, strong, beautiful, and flawless. No one was offended, the sport was pushed forward, and we saw art and athleticism come together. That is my flavor of ice-dancing.

I am watching The Cutting Edge to really immerse myself in the spirit of the Winter Games. (BTW, would it have been so hard to have Moira Kelly get her teeth whitened and eyebrows shaped before they started filming? Come on. It's the little things, people.) (And by the other way, how HOT is DB Sweeney? Meow. He's not quite as hot as Aksel Lund Svindal, the Norwegian alpine skier who has captured my heart by his smokin' body, Olympic medals, Scandinavian accent, and compelling personal story-- but, he's a solid runner-up.)

What else is happening? Oh, that's right...just a little hockey game between friends...U-S-A, U-S-A!!! I cannot believe the US beat Canada. I am scared of what is happening on the streets of Vancouver right now. I hope to GOD that the Americans who are there to see the Games are behaving themselves and respecting just how important hockey is to the Canadian national identity. Oy. Powder keg, much? Anyway-- I'm sad that there's only one more week of Olympic fun. We have to wait 4 more years for this again?! Ick. Thankfully, there is another fantastic international sporting event happening in just a few short months: WORLD CUP. Awesome. All of that jersey-switching diplomacy and superhuman stamina.

I'm off to gaze dreamily at Doug Dorsey. Allez, USA!!
