Messy ponytails

I went out to buy a gift to celebrate Eamon turning zero years old, and I bought myself a thick compendium [not sure if that's the right word, but it sounds awesome and somewhat accurate] of quotes. Most of the quotes skew to the humorous side, but some of them were a bit more somber. A few notes:

1. Nietzche may have been brilliant, but it seems like he was a total dick, too. Who refers to PLATO as a bore? Ugh.
2. Woody Allen is a perv. Straight-up.
3. James Joyce was a bit of a perv, too.
4. It's ridiculous that Joan Rivers gets more attention in the media today for her red-carpet critique and her myriad cosmetic procedures than she does for her wit. I want to read more about her. I want to learn more about comediennes that paved the way for today's generation of funny-ladies.
5. I have a new favorite quote about love: "Love is what you've been through with somebody." (James Thurber) I don't know what Thurber's intent was in crafting this statement, but it really struck me.

That's it so far. I am keeping the book next to my regular reading spot, so I can revisit it and read a few gems at a time.

In other news, I had lunch with an old friend today-- Niki. We have sort of an odd friendship, but it's a good one, too. I like that even after 13 years, we both show up to lunch in jeans, messy ponytails, no make-up, just comfortable to eat some Olgabread and talk trash. I'm glad that we haven't grown out of that.

Lastly, I saw some pictures of baby Eamon. HOLY SHIT. He is gorgeous. GORGEOUS. Smushy, pink, tiny, and very bunny-like. I am so happy for his mom. If that kid is ever in the market for an extra surrogate aunt, I am all over it.
