This is how it's looking right now, after Jan worked her magic with the cleanser and gauze that feels like puppy ears. I still can't believe that my incision is being held together by glue! And yes, I got through another day without a major spasm...very encouraging. I took a walk earlier with my mom, about 15 minutes total, and it was a little tough...I could feel the impact of every heel-strike, and it's a constant challenge to get the muscles on either side of the incision to just release...but I know the blood flow is doing nothing but good. (Katie is gunning for me to do a half-marathon with her-- if Dr. T. gives me the go-ahead, this blog is going to take on a whole new theme because GAME ON, WOMAN!)
And here's the current co-MVP of Team Dana...my madre, the Jancita, the one who has to clean and re-dress that wicked incision every night, and not make fun of my steroid-puffed face, and hear me saying over and over, "Mom, it's not so much that I'm in pain, it's just that I'm uncomfortable." (This is the case about 60% of the time. The other 40%, yes, there's legit pain.) Between Jan and Doug (the other co-MVP), they are quite the team. (Is it clear that this photo was taken the night before surgery? Those are not the faces of relaxed Monforton women.)
Good night-- I hope everyone has a nice Friday!
Oh Sister. You are very wondrous. I have decided to put together a pledge sheet for our half marathon efforts. I have to talk to Kataters and other Sister for marketing/advertising plans, but I think we have something here. I have GREAT response for my idea to raise money on your behalf to donate back to Dr. Mehta's clinic for patiets who need financial support buying antibiotics, or covering minimal costs. I also thought about making a donation to an organization that provides mobility support equipment to lower income folks who've had major head/neck traumas. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHi Dana - It's been forever since we saw each other, but my mom shared the link to your blog with me and I just had to tell you that I am beyond impressed with your strength, sense of humor, and grace throughout this ordeal. Honestly, I often wonder how I would handle something like this and I hope it would be like you have.
ReplyDeleteSending love and "game on, girl" vibes from Chicago.

Dana,
ReplyDeleteI too am impressed by your strength and candor. Most people struggle to get the words out on a good day, without Percocet.
Holy moly, that's a giant-jumbo of an incision! I just wanted you to know that I'll be thinking of you and all of your team as you make the long road back to recovery.
Best wishes,
Matthew Schulte
