I fell asleep last night before 9pm, and despite a few interruptions, I slept until 5:15am. My body honestly doesn't know what to do with itself after a solid 8 hours of sleep. Also, in the past few days, I think my swelling has subsided a little, and so I'm hearing little pops and snaps in my neck when I move my head or stretch. It is the oddest sensation! I know that there are screws or staples or some sort of metal work in my vertebrae, securing the length of it that was manipulated during surgery, so whenever I hear one of those little noises, I'm one part relieved because it feels good and one part soiling myself because what if there's a screw loose?! (I mean, another screw loose? Haha.) I hear those noises whenever I have to lift my arms above my head, especially when doing something with my hair. Snap, crackle, pop. Anyway, day by day, stiffness is getting better and the pain is getting more manageable-- slow and steady, winning this race tortoise-style.
My right hand is really driving me nuts...my thumb and index finger are kicking ass and taking names, the nerve pain I felt in my thumb and coming from the thumb joint is pretty much gone, but my last three fingers and the underside of my right arm-- well, let me just say that I'm looking forward to when their dysfunction is a funny anecdote. I've probably already said that before, I really am..."Mom, remember when I tried to toss you the remote with my wonky right hand, and even though you were maybe 3 feet away, I missed the mark by about 2 feet? Yeah, that was hilarious." I am ready for that dialogue! At the risk of sacrificing my ladylike demeanor (hahahhahahahhahhahahahha!!!!), may I just say the following?: one uses their dominant hand for more diurnal tasks than simply writing, and adjusting to the dysfunction of said extremity is both frustrating and hilarious. Just think about it.
Ok, I think it's time for a nap. WTF else should I be doing right now?!
About 10 years ago I slipped on ice and quite successfully smashed my right wrist...Big ol' lime green cast. I relate....it wasn't pretty. But sometimes privately halarious.
ReplyDeleteGo take your nap.
