17-Across: Other world (17 letters)

Yes, that's right, I am feeling like I'm living in an alternate universe-- I could barely make a dent in today's NY Times crossword and it's WEDNESDAY. I am a solid Thursday-level puzzler. What kind of sick joke is Will Shortz playing? Not cool, Shortz. I like to do a crossword each day. It's fun and it supplements my natural smartassiness. For anyone that is a habitual puzzler, it is well-known that crosswords are written in their own language. Normally, I am partially fluent in the language. (I am Thursdaily fluent in crosswordese.) And today, it's like I need a translator. Ugh. Not cool. A friend of mine occasionally seeks my help for writing assignments-- this friend is dyslexic and has an awful time with getting words on paper. The idea of not being able to make words do what I want is staggering. Bombing a Wednesday crossword is putting me in my place.

Tomorrow's puzzle better watch its step because it. is. ON.
