B-b-b-BABY

You know that scene when someone has to admit that he/she hasn't seen/heard/read [X piece of media/art]?

"Actually, OK, don't hate me, but I've never seen 'The Apartment'".
"No. I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books nor have I seen any of the movies. I don't plan to. Get off it."

(ATL Laura admitted to me a few nights ago that she hasn't seen Saving Private Ryan...this is fairly shocking considering that there are college classes developed around the historical commentary offered by that film.)

Well, everyone has at least one or two of those things-- I am a total Harry Potter neophyte, and up until a few weeks ago, I'd never seen an episode of 24. But, a few minutes ago, I encountered a completely shocking instance. My friend John, who pointed out that one of the dancers from the Oscars ceremony the other night had been a dancer on one of Madonna's tours, who can critique a film like a pro, who definitely keeps his finger on the pulse, has never seen Footloose. I cannot believe it. It's one of the movies that everyone has seen, whether they wanted to or not-- like You've Got Mail or Top Gun. It's part of being an American!

Anyway. Tonight's line-up on NBC was pretty good, I thought. I have very little interest in Katharine McPhee (even if she spells her name just like I spell my middle name), and I would've been happier to see more of Frank, Toofer, and Lutz on 30 Rock, but all in all, there was definitely some laughter.

And the REAL news of the day...

my friend had her baby!! He was actually born last night at 9:30, but we didn't get word until around 8am. His name is Eamon Charles, he was 7-2, 18", and he and his mom are both doing well. I am so happy for that family. And I am SO happy for baby Eamon-- he really hit the jackpot, parent-wise. The grandparents are understandably ecstatic. I saw a little snapshot, and I'm not a very good judge of newborn aesthetics, but I'm pretty sure he will be a total babe. And you can just tell that he's exceptionally brilliant. That's plain as day. And as I predicted, there is much joy in Mudville.
